HISTORY

The Pine Rivers Women’s Auxiliary was formed in 1950 with 7 founding members.  In the beginning, the ladies met at the Petrie Hall, later moving to the present site with the Pine Rivers RSL Sub Branch at Kallangur adjacent to the Norths Leagues and Services club.

In 2017 we celebrate 67 years of service.  We honour and thank all the members of the past for their legacy.

From its humble beginnings to a strong membership today, the Auxiliary has not just grown in numbers but in purpose where all the members strive towards providing the Sub Branch, its members and the Community support wherever we can.

MOTTO

“To honour God and our Country and show appreciation of those who offered their lives seeking freedom for us and our children.  We pledge ourselves to this task without self-seeking, without prejudice, always remembering, We Also Serve”.

The Auxiliary members not only dedicate themselves to this core purpose, but are also constantly extending knowledge in the field of Advocacy, Welfare, Volunteer Services and State Council Membership so we can further assist and support our members and our Community.

PURPOSE

The core purpose of the Auxiliary is to offer support services to all the Pine Rivers RSL Sub Branch members, servicemen and women and families in any way we can.  This is done in many ways including: function support and catering, Diggers Day, Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veteran’s Day.  We also have many fundraising events throughout the year which include: sausage sizzles, craft days, annual fashion parade, President’s Luncheon, plus a weekly cash prize raffle.  Over the years we have built a special partnership with the team at Norths Leagues and Services Club, Kallangur where most of our major functions are held.  They support us and in turn our members assist them by providing volunteers for many of their major functions such as Melbourne Cup Day luncheon.

PROJECTS

Another purpose of the Auxiliary is our Community/Welfare work.  Throughout the year we organise social events and day trips for our members, we also visit other Auxiliaries around the Brisbane area to network, share experiences and grow our knowledge in a friendly and warm atmosphere.  Each year we donate up to $6,000 to various community projects.

In 2017 we began a new project called the “Assist a Student Scheme”.  A Local year 6 student who was academically capable but unable to excel due to their financial circumstances was chosen.  We work very closely with the school Principal, both having the same goal…..help the student excel and prepare for High School free of worry and burden by paying ALL the students school fees and expenses for the whole year.  We are happy and proud to say that the project is a success and our focus will be to fundraise so we can continue and even extend it to more schools in the coming years.
